While the majority of victims are women, men do experience domestic abuse and need support. It is often hard for men to get help in these situations because of fears about being ridiculed, or not being believed.
The Safer Wales Dyn project provides support to Heterosexual, Gay, Bisexual and Trangender men who are experiencing domestic abuse. It has developed a number of guiding principles for its work, which include:
It is essential to develop appropriate services for all men which are effective in reducing risk and increasing safety An appropriate assessment protocol is essential in order to identify, and respond appropriately to counter-allegations of domestic abuse
Training content includes:
Understanding the issues for men who experience domestic abuse
Barriers to disclosure
Assessing men on a scale from victim to perpetrator
How to use the Dyn assessment tool to identify men, on a scale from ‘victim’ to ‘perpetrator’
Learning Outcomes:
To gain skills in responding appropriately to male victims
To be able to use these skills and knowledge, supported by the Dyn assessment tool for work with male victims
Target Group:- Multi disciplinary practitioners working in domestic absue and sexual violence , organisations who work with men, or wish to develop their services to work with men.
This training will be useful for both managers and frontline professionals wishing to develop their understanding in relation to providing appropriate responses to male clients experiencing domestic abuse.
The training will be provided by Simon Borja, the Project Development Manager & Matthew Bailey Dyn Project CAADA qualified IDSVA (Safer Wales Ltd).
